• Arrival and Departure

Arrival time is 8:30am. Each child must be escorted to the classroom door by a parent or guardian. If you arrive prior to 8:30am, please wait with your child in the parent room across from the classroom. Departure time is 11:30am. Mrs. Bilski or I will escort the children to the front door for pickup. Children are only allowed to leave in the company of parents or authorized persons. No child will be allowed to leave the school if a person has not been authorized by the parent or guardian to pick up the child.

    Snack Time

Snack time is when the children all sit together and relax and enjoy each other's company, while practicing appropriate language and social skills. Children need to bring a snack and drink to school. According to our Healthy Snacks program, we strongly encourage that parents provide healthful foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

    Classroom Parties

Birthdays and special holidays are celebrated at preschool throughout the year. If you would like your child to celebrate his or her birthday in class, you would need to bring in a small plate of a fruit or vegetable in keeping in compliance with our Healthy Snacks program, so that the children can enjoy a sweet treat as well. When we celebrate special holidays, I will send home a letter with the date, and I would ask parents to volunteer bringing in a small plate of a fruit or vegetable.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are offered twice a year during the school's report card time. At these conferences we will have a brief 10-minute meeting regarding your child's progress at school. However, you do not have to wait until conference time to find out how your child is doing in preschool. You can email me at kbrown@hdsd.org any time to set up an appointment to discuss your child's progress, or any questions or concerns you may have.

    Clothing

Although the children have free and ample use of the classroom bathroom, please bring in a complete change of clothes in the unfortunate event of an accident wherein your child will need a change of clothing. Also, children need to have adequate outdoor clothing for outdoor recess and comfortable indoor clothing that can get messy during art projects. Also, please make certain that your child is wearing sneakers on Wednesdays for PE; otherwise, for safety reasons your child will not be able to attend PE.

    Emergency Preparedness

Washington Elementary School practices fire drills and safety drills throughout the year. In case of a fire or other emergency, we follow the school's emergency response plans and procedures.

    Late Start Days

Please always check the school calendar for Late Start days, as on those days there is not preschool.
